A FAMILY PORTRAIT FAVOURITE OF 2011: BACKLIT WITH A STEEL DRUM
I realise “mother and child, backlit with a steel drum” might be a bit too specific to count as a trend for 2011. But I’m bloody well going to try to make it a trend in 2012.
Usually I hate my pictures when they’re indoor shots with awfully blown-out windows, but this one taught me that I can learn to love them. Perhaps that is the trend — learning to like things I used to dismiss. If so, I like it.
(The real thing I like so much about this shot isn’t the pretty backlighting, lovely as it is, but the expressions. They’re dressed up fancy and all, but it’s a real mama-baby moment.)
